Vrajesh & Mink eliminated from Bigg Boss-6

Drama...controversies...and surprises continues in tonight's episode of Colors Bigg Boss season season 6 Alag Che.

The contestants and the audiences were left bewildered when all the 13 contestants of the Bigg Boss house were nominated for elimination. However, the two contestants who will be seen walking out of the Bigg Boss-6 house are Vrajesh Hirjee and Mink Brar.

Sources inform that tonight viewers will witness the elimination of Vrajesh Hirjee and Mink Brar. The last few episodes of the show did not see any elimination as the contestants who were evicted from the house were sent to the second Bigg Boss house (Mud house). However, this time the two contestants Vrajesh Hirjee and Mink Brar are ousted from the show. Both the contestant received lowest votes as compared to their other housemates and hence were eliminated.

We wonder what Urvashi will do now with two of her close pals Mink and Vrajesh being eliminated!

Single women still have sex with exes

Almost half of single women have regularly had sex with an ex boyfriend while looking for a new lover, a shocking new survey has revealed.

The poll of 1,000 men and women found that the majority of girls who resort to sex with the ex do so because they "miss physical intimacy," the Daily Mail reported.

A further 31 percent admitted it was because they hoped to reignite a relationship with a former flame.

An additional 43 per cent of women also admitted to regularly sleeping with an ex while on the lookout for a new partner. An even higher 47 per cent of men confessed to doing the same.

And they aren't alone. A-listers Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher famously reunited after their divorce before going their separate ways again, as did Cheryl Cole and her former husband, Chelsea footballer, Ashley.

Dating site Seeking Arrangement.com which conducted the research said that the top five reasons for getting back into bed with an ex-partner also included having too much to drink, flirting on Facebook and other social media sites, and bumping into each other on a night out.

GMR row: India freezes aid to Maldives, ties under stress

SINGAPORE/MALE/NEW DELHI: In a move to put pressure on Male, India has frozen aid to Maldives as its government on Monday decided to take control of the international airport despite a Singapore court staying the suspension of the contract given to India's GMR-led consortium.

The high court of Singapore suspended the Maldives government's decision last week to terminate the $500 million contract, the single largest Indian FDI in the Maldives, awarded to the consortium for developing the Ibrahim Nasir International Airport at Male.

"High court of Singapore today (Monday) granted injunctive relief (stayed) against the applicability and operations of (contract termination) letter issued by the ministry of finance and treasury (MoFT), government of Maldives," GMR said in a statement.

"The high court upon hearing both the parties was pleased to grant this stay in favour of GMIAL (consortium of GMR-MAHB)."

However, the arbitration process will continue on the sidelines, said a company official.

The Singapore high court is acting as an arbitrator in the issue between the GMR-backed consortium GMIAL and the Maldives government. Under the contract, the law of either Singapore or Britain would apply in case of differences between parties.

The Maldives government, however, chose to defy the order. "We will continue the airport takeover and Inshallah next Saturday onwards MACL (state-controlled Maldives Airport Company Ltd) will be running the airport," Defence minister and acting transport minister Mohamed Nazim told reporters in Male on Monday.

Upset at the Maldives government's attitude, India has put on hold $25-million budgetary commitment to Male, said reliable sources on Monday.

Bilateral ties will be affected, said the sources.

The Indian government is also studying the court order and its implications, said the sources.

The Maldives government Wednesday had defended its decision to terminate the GMR contract, saying the deal was dogged by "legal, technical and economic issues". However, in the wake of reaction by the Maldives government Monday, it seems legal issues were only the fig leaf behind which President Mohamed Waheed was hiding, the sources said.

In New Delhi's assessment, there are many vested interests at work, a veiled allusion to the increasing clout of a pro-China clique that is said to be close to the powers-that-be in Male and has influenced the decision to scrap the GMR contract.

What is more distressing to India, the sources added, is the way a commercial dispute has been used by some fringe elements and political parties in the Maldives to whip up anti-India sentiments.

"It has become an election issue and it has ceased to be a purely commercial matter," said the sources.

Elections are scheduled to be held in the Maldives late next year, but there are indications that they could be held as early as next year. GMIAL, which is a consortium of GMR and Malaysian airports operator MAHB, had won the right to operate and modernise Ibrahim Nasir International Airport in a bidding conducted by IFC, an arm of the World Bank.

The Maldivian cabinet had directed GMIAL to hand over the airport within seven days to MACL. It had also asked GMR to vacate and remove all property from the airport within 30 days.

According to GMR, both MACL and the MoFT, under the concession agreement, "are not allowed to interfere with the rights of the Investor (GMR-MAHB consortium)".

"With this (judgment), GMIAL shall continue to operate the Ibrahim Nasir International Airport as usual as per the provisions of the concession agreement," GMR said.

Fighting cancer with cell phones: New Invention to Save life

Only innovation can reduce illness and poverty in Africa, according to a program that is funding creative approaches to healthcare in developing countries.

More than 50,000 women die each year of cervical cancer in Africa, according to World Health Organization estimates, as more than 80% of the cases are detected in late stages.

In countries such as Tanzania, where nearly 4,500 women die annually from the disease, the problem is exacerbated by an acute shortage of medical experts and a lack of quality screening services, especially in rural areas.

But now a group of Canadian and Tanzanian health innovators have joined forces to apply simple and safe mobile technologies to improve cervical cancer screening and thus potentially reduce mortality rates in the East African country.

The idea is to send teams of two trained non-physician healthcare workers in remote Tanzania to examine women living several hours away from health centers. The nurses, who will be equipped with cervical screening and treatment tools as well as standard smartphones, will take a photograph of the cervix with their phone and send it via SMS to a medical expert in a specialized clinic.

Trained doctors will then be able to review the image immediately and text the diagnosis back to the health worker, as well as give instructions about treatment.

"That's the beauty of it -- for early grade cancers, those will be able to be treated right in the field, right in the rural area," says Dr Karen Yeates, of Queen's University, Ontario, the principal investigator of The Kilimanjaro Cervical Screening Project.

The effectiveness of the idea will be put to the test in the coming months as Yeates was named Thursday amongst the 68 innovators to receive $100,000 Canadian grants to pursue bold concepts for tackling health issues in developing countries.

In total, some $7 million has been awarded to 51 innovators in 18 low and middle-income countries, and to 17 Canadian projects, by Grand Challenges Canada, a group sponsoring breakthrough concepts to improve health in poor parts of the world. Thirty-eight of these projects will be implemented in Africa.

"This is probably the largest pipeline of innovation in global health from the developing world," says Peter Singer, chief executive of Grand Challenges Canada, which is funded by the Canadian government. "It shows that poor countries are very rich in ideas because talent is everywhere, opportunity is not and what we are trying to do is to bring opportunity to talent to improve health."

Peter Singer, Grand Challenges Canada, CEO

Amongst the Africa-based projects is a new trading system in Kenya where researchers will create a barcoded vaccination card that people can redeem for farm seeds and fertilizer as part of efforts to encourage vaccination of children.

Benson Wamalwa, of the University of Nairobi, says the project "would powerfully incentivize parents to seek and adhere to their children's immunization schedule even when hard pressed financially to reach a distant vaccination center. The idea is a practical solution that would significantly boost small farm productivity and incomes for poor households while safeguarding the general health of children in farming villages through up-to-date immunizations."

Other programs include restoring native freshwater prawns in Senegal to eat the populations of snails that are responsible for the spreading of the parasitic disease schistosomiasis; paying youth in Uganda to collect and sort garbage and deliver it to a plant for conversion to fertilizer and biogas in order to improve sanitation; and anti-diarrhea kits for children hitching a ride on Coca-Cola's distribution chain to improve the availability of life-saving drugs.

Grand Challenges Canada says it will repeat its Stars in Global Health program every six months, funding hundreds of projects over the coming years. It also plans to work with partners to provide scale-up funding of up to $1 million to those ideas that are proved to be successful so that they can have a bigger impact in a more sustainable way.

Singer says that many of the traditional approaches when it comes aid have proved to be inadequate. Instead, he argues, fostering innovation and investing in the ideas of the people can be an effective exit strategy from poverty.

"There are only two ways for a country to develop, there's only two sources of wealth in the world," he says. "Either you mine the ground for resources and minerals,if you do that in a non-corrupt manner, or you mine the brains of your citizens for their bold ideas and help them to create social enterprises, to create businesses that can improve the local conditions in a broader scale."

He adds: "I do think that these innovators can help the problems of their community -- in fact, they are the only thing that can."

How Vibrant Gujarat became driving force for DMIC

As I was witnessing and occasionally tweeting on Modi’s successful trip to Japan, it was very unfortunate to find people back home who do not have any idea of the significance were behaving like frog in a well. If so called main stream media was busy focusing only on Manesar and Modi, the local Bapus to Kakas of Gujarat were ridiculing his trip. Some of the leader even questioning the invitation and raising big question over the successful claims. May I humbly suggest they eat their words now.

One of the most ambitious projects under Japan-India partnership has finally taken a shape. The much celebrated Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) has got full backing of Japanese Govt. With India approving investment by Japan Bank of International Cooperation (JBIC), the project got much needed boost. JBIC is going to fund some of the projects and same were to be agreed when both PMs meet in Japan. ManMohan Singh could not make it to Japan, both leaders met in Cambodia.Ministry of Economy Trade and Investment (METI) of Japan just announced the list of the 19 projects that would be funded by JBIC. And Gujarat got lion share of them. Out of announced 19 projects, Maharashtra got 4, Haryana and Rajasthan got 2 each, One each went to UP and MP, while two projects are yet to decide where to park them. This is the watershed event for DMIC project, as finally the concept has beze en converted to concrete projects. The companies will be given 4-5 years to finalize. If you are still wondering why I was sounding
so victorious for Modi in first paragraph? Here is the reason. Whooping 7 projects, biggest numbers for any state is announced for Gujarat.

Maharashtra, Haryana, UP they all have much bigger Japanese companies presence compared to Gujarat. Still Gujarat beat them by miles in attracting mega infrastructure projects. Japanese companies with their proven tested technology will play major role along with affordable capital cost.

Needless to say that investment in infrastructure has force-multiplier effect. Gujarat will benefit immensely. But why Japan should focus so much on Gujarat? One point that goes straight in the favour is there is no political interference in decision making. There is absolute clarity in regulations and more importantly people’s appreciation and respect for business. What also goes unnoticed is the State’s fiscal discipline.

When Narendra Modi was in Japan, our media was only focusing on Manesar and Suzuki. The Japanese honchos and officials were seeing hope. Their confidence in Gujarat would have got a huge boost. So if anyone reading this trying to jump to conclusion that “Oh he had gone to lobby for these projects”, I am sorry to disappoint you. Watchout for the detailed analysis on How it is Narendra Modi’s Gujarat that is helping UPA in their biggest economic project ever.
